Starting to get in a groove

This week everything is starting to fall in place. Students remember where to sit and how to enter the room. We can start thinking less about how to have music class and really start making some music. the 2nd and 3rd graders are really having a good time singing “Mi Cuerpo”. We talked a bit about how notes moved, up or down, at the end of a phrase. It’s never to early to start really listening to the pitches in a song. The k and 1st grade kids are beginning to remember the 3 color words and which voice to use. So far the calling voice has been everyone’s favorite but I’m starting to hear some really great singing voices too!

It’s a Start

This week in music I got to see most of the classes. Three first grade classes got slighted due to the early release on Wednesday. We’ve started working on 2 songs in Spanish for an assembly in September. The second and third graders are learning Mi Cuerpo and the kindergarten and first graders are learning Los Colores. We also went over the rules in music class. We decided that rule 5 was the most important rule to remember. Rule 5 is “Keep your dear teacher happy”.

I’m looking forward to Monday when I finally get to see all the first grade classes!

I’ve been missing you guys!

Howdy kiddos! I’ve been missing all of you this summer! I can’t wait to start music classes with most of you on Wednesday! Bring your best singing voice. Have you been thinking about rhythms? Can you find the steady beat? And if you are in 1st – 3rd grade I’ve got a cool new tool we’ll be using. Don’t you just wonder what it could be? It’s a secret for now but you’ll find out soon enough!

First Graders play a song with out a conductor!!

We are growing so much in 1st grade! We began the year playing our BoomWhacker Mysteries with Mrs. Muench conducting or pointing to the icons as they went by. Then we grew a little and had a student point instead of Mrs. Muench. We called that “driving the bus”. But today something truly amazing happened in 1B. They played a BoomWhacker Mystery with out anyone pointing at the icons on the SMARTboard. This means that each student had to follow the icons on their own. Way cool!! Watch the video to see us figuring it out.
